Friday 13th May 2011

Wicklow RNLI all weather lifeboat ANNIE BLAKER was launched just before 0820am this morning ( Friday 13th May ) after it was reported that a fishing vessel was in need of assistance, approximately a half mile South of Wicklow Head.
The lifeboat under the command of Coxswain Nick Keogh was quickly on scene and located the small fishing vessel drifting after engine failure , a towline was quickly passed and established , the fishing vessel with 3 crew was towed safely back to Wicklow harbour and was secured alongside the South Quay by 0910am. The lifeboat returned to Station and was ready for service again at 0945am.
This is the 5th callout this year for the busy station that was established in 1857.
Crew list - Coxswain Nick Keogh , Mechanic Brendan Copeland , Ciaran Doyle , Lisa O Leary , Brendan Kavanagh and Tommy Murphy.
Shore crew - John Sillery  , John Hayden , Tommy Dover , John Docherty , Carol Flahive , Wayne Jones , Kevin Rahill , John Vize and Alan Goucher.

 

Sunday 20th March 2011

RNLB ANNIE BLAKER and inshore lifeboat RNLB SHERINGHAM SHANTYMEN launched just after 1pm on Sunday 20th March 2011 after 3 men in kayaks contacted the Coast Guard to say one of the party was in difficulties off Wicklow head.Coxswain Nick Keogh described the sea conditions in the area as rough with wind force 3-4. It was reported that the man had been in the water for a short period after his kayak capsized .

The inshore crew were first on scene and took the man onboard , he was then transferred to the all weather lifeboat and taken back to Wicklow harbour where a waiting Ambulance took him to hospital . The inshore lifeboat then picked up the other 2 kayakers and transferred them to the all weather lifeboat , they were landed safely back at Wicklow harbour . Operations Manager Des Davitt said the men were well equipped and carried a handheld marine VHF radio , enabling them to contact the Coast Guard quickly . With all 3 kayakers ashore the lifeboats were stood down and returned to Station just before 3pm. Coxswain Nick Keogh and 3rd Coxswain Dave O Leary were at their daughters christening's and dashed from the Church just as the priest was finishing the ceremony, they were able to return to their families and resume the christrning celebrations.

Saturday 30th October 2010

Wicklow RNLI inshore lifeboat was called into action shortly before 2pm this afternoon (Saturday 30th October 2010). After 2 people got into difficulties while on a jet ski in Wicklow bay. The Coast Guard were alerted after vigilant members of the public spotted a man waving for help in the water off the East pier.The lifeboat quickly located the 2 people a few hundred metres off Wicklow harbour, a young girl was taken onto the lifeboat and her father was taken from the water by the lifeboat crew, he was unable to get back onboard the jet ski after it overturned, but had managed to lift the young girl back onto the Jet ski until help arrived.The lifeboat crew wrapped the young girl in a blanket to keep her warm as she had spent time in the cold water in light clothing, The father and daughter were taken back to Wicklow harbour and brought ashore cold and shaken but unharmed after a eventful afternoon.

ILB lifeboat crew on this occasion were Lisa O Leary, John Docherty and Brian Sinnott.

 

Sunday 15th August 2010

Wicklow RNLI lifeboat was launched at 2.15pm today (Sunday 15 August) to assist a motor cruiser in difficulties South of Wicklow Head.

The alarm was raised after a person contacted the Coastguard to say his vessel had developed mechanical problems and required assistance.

The lifeboat under the command of Coxswain Nick Keogh located the stricken vessel close to the Wolf Rock near Ardmore Point. Crew member Dave O Leary went onboard the cruiser and established a towline, he stayed on the vessel until it was safely back in the harbour.

The lifeboat towed the vessel back to Wicklow harbour, by 3.30pm the cruiser with one occupant was safely secured alongside the East Pier. With the operation complete the volunteer lifeboat crew were stood down and returned to station.
