End of a era for Wicklow RNLI Ladies guild

On the 20th of August 2004 past and present members of theWicklow Lifeboat Ladies Guild gathered together to bid a fond farewell to the hardworking committee. The Ladies guild has been disbanded and replaced with a Fundraising Branch open to both men and women.The move is part of a national development to streamline the lifesaving charity. The social gathering took place in the home of Ann Roundtree and paid tribute to the members of the committee who worked with such dedication for Wicklow Lifeboat over the 36 year's of the Guild's existence.
The Ladies guild was founded in 1968 by May Byrne.She joined Esther byrne , Marie Kinsella , May Mason , Jenny Greenwood and Sandra Desmond who represented the original committee on the night.
Over the year's the Ladies guild has been extremely industrious , organising fundraising event's ranging from coffee morning's to cake and jumble sales and anything in between that would bring in money for the lifeboat's . Many of the Ladies guild have joined the new fundraising branch and will continue to raise money for the lifesaving charity in the future.
