Lifeboat
Crew
A ship in trouble off the shore
The crash of the maroon is heard no more
Instead the sound of pagers bleeping
Calling the Crew whether working or sleeping
Down to the boathouse no fear in their heart
Their lives in their hands they soon depart
Down the slip and on her way
Like a dog she shakes the spray
From off her decks and settles down
With seven young crew representing their town
The loved ones that they leave behind
Urging them on in heart and mind.
Lights approaching red and green
To those in trouble a sight supreme
Wallowing helpless in the tide
They watch their saviors pull alongside
The crew all leave the stricken craft
Which is then secured both fore and aft
Lightning arcs across the sky
Survivors know they will not die
Wrapped in blankets safe and warm
Saved by the men who braved the storm
Who knows when they’ll be called again
Those hearty local
Lifeboatmen
A nice lifeboat poem - a tribute
to all crews throughout the network, written by our treasurer Tommy McGauley. Wicklow.
